It's a great place with some great people doing great work. I may be biased though, because I volunteer. My wife and I made some great ornaments at the turning class!

My son had a week of summer camp at BCW and loved it - so we enrolled him in the semester youth program. It is amazing how much he has learned so far and how proud he feels of his work. The shop is great and the volunteers that work with the kids are very invested in helping the kids learn skills and independence. Love that this is a non-profit organization focused on helping youth and the community learn trade skills.

I love this place! I had been looking for things to do for my 13 year old son. It can be difficult to find things that he enjoys. Right after the first class I asked him how it went and he liked it! Such a great win. Additionally, I've had the opportunity to observe some of the classes from the sidelines and I'm super impressed with all the volunteer teachers. They are all wonderful and supportive, even when my child can be a little cranky in class after a long day. I really appreciate that this place exists and how supportive they are for kids. I just might take an adult class myself soon!

Volunteered some time today to build some dust separators for their dust collection system.

I came across Bull City Woodshop and one of its instructors/board members/volunteers through Reddit after making a post - I asked if anyone would be willing to point me in the direction of some guidance on how to get a woodworking project started when I had no woodworking experience. Scott invited me for a tour of the woodshop and to hear about their programming, which was honestly more than I expected from my post. I am so impressed by their efforts to engage children (and adults) in a hands-on, welcoming, and supportive place that is truly a gift for the Durham community. It was really wonderful to see the instructors and kids/adults working together and having a place to just be themselves, learn, and have fun. After receiving a brief introduction from the tour and also several hours with Scott’s help designing and executing the initial parts of my project, I’m excited to continue and take one of their adult classes next! Definitely check it out :).
