As indicated by the name, Joe Van Gogh takes pride in the art and craft of everything they do – seed to service and concept to cup. If you’re out near Duke or 9th Street and find yourself in need of a beverage, head to the Broad Street location. Whether you're looking for study vibes, beverages, warmth or sweet sips, you'll find it at Joe Van Gogh.

Extremely limited seating. But hey, you don't come here for the atmosphere. You come for the coffee. And their coffees are excellent. Iced or hot, doesn't matter. Enjoy!

A modernist coffee shop in North Carolina's research triangle has drawn attention for its precise balance of academic utility and calculated aesthetics. Joe Van Gogh, situated in Durham's evolving suburban landscape, offers sixteen seats and specializes in sweetened matcha preparations.
Lord, these walls have witnessed the slow dance of progress and pretense, where the pothos vines, green as dollar bills, hungry as graduate students, drip down from industrial arteries above, while below the chosen sixteen perch upon their metal thrones, bathed in the glow of MacBook affluence and neon flame art that burns but does not consume.
The air here is thick with possibility and oat milk steam, heavy as August kudzu but filtered through Swedish design principles, while the young prophets of suburbia tap out their digital gospels beneath Edison bulbs that cast no judgment. They come seeking salvation in sweetened matcha, green as old money, smooth as new ambition, their faces reflecting the holy trinity of ambition, caffeine, and WiFi signals strong enough to pierce heaven itself.
The congregation, beautiful and curated as the hanging plants above them, flows through this temple of temporary permanence: Asian STEM apostles and young Caucasian professional disciples, all drawn to the promised land of precision-poured lattes and power outlets abundant as Southern sunshine. Their fingers trace the grain of wooden slat walls that whisper of artisanal authenticity, while their leather laptop sleeves rest on concrete floors smooth as forgotten tobacco fortunes.
The establishment has successfully captured the area's emerging professional demographic, with a consistent weekend crowd despite limited seating. Industry analysts note the strategic positioning of both menu and design elements to appeal to the region's growing technical workforce and affluent student population. Current wait times for seating average 12-15 minutes during peak hours.

My wife and I are in a constant debate about our favorite coffee shop in Durham and this is her staunch favorite. I love the drinks here and do think they make the best Match lattes in the area, (particularly their summer special with Matcha was spectacular).
The food is consistently solid, ive had the burrito a million times and am partial to their overnight oats. The coffee is delicious and the drinks are very well crafted. The staff is consistently disinterested, bordering on unfriendly but it's a vibe as a former brooklynite I totally respect.
If you want a latte you really wont do better than JVG.

Joe Van Gogh on Broad St. has become a staple of my weekly routine. Everyone there has always been so cool and awesome and the coffee is easily my favorite in the area. When they’re not too busy, I have great conversations with the baristas. This place is always a great place to start my morning, or even my afternoon! I always feel so welcome and always leave there with a smile!

I LOVE jvg and all of the employees presently, I’m always met with a pleasant face and so much kindness, and they’re fast! They keep the line moving even while making friendly banter with the locals. It appalls me to read any not thrilled reviews with the amazing experience I always have.
The best chai latte I’ve had in Durham, a fantastic latte, and fun seasonal specials. Plus it’s really amazing to see the rotation of local art on the walls, very accepting supportive vibes 🌈

Cozy little place appears to be very popular with the students. Even on a Sunday. There is seating for about 15, they seem to do a lot of takeouts. The coffee was good.

Wow they got some really good drip coffee (house blend) and matcha there. It was fairly priced and the wifi was good! Saw a lot of pastry options and will definitely try in the future. Overall a great spot to do some study on a weekend!
