The Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice stands today as a testament to Murray's work. It is a historic landmark anchored by Pauli Murray's childhood home, built by her grandparents in 1898. The Center provides a place to operate and continue Murray's legacy. The exhibits, community dialogues, visual and performing arts, activism and workshops at the Center connect history to contemporary human rights issues.
This was perfect. Small enough for elementary aged kids to make it through but also leave you wanting to know more and read Pauli's books! Thankful to have this place in Durham.

I was here for a program to discuss Proud Shoes as a book club. Meeting at the place Pauli Murray was raised to discuss the book they wrote about their family history had been such a great experience. The Center is designed in a thoughtful, inclusive way and teaches so much about the different aspects of Pauli Murray's life and impact on history.

We really enjoyed our tour of the Pauli Murray house. Our guide did an excellent job of highlighting the importance of Pauli's work and describing how the early years Pauli spent in the house played a crucial role in Pauli's intellectual and moral development.

I was skeptical of going on a tour of the house. I felt like I knew a fair amount about Pauli Murray already, but the tour was amazing. The presentations were crisp, insightful, and generous in spirit. They book up quickly so make a reservation soon. If you are using GPS, put in the street address . . . Apple Maps sent me in circles around the West End!

Unfortunately the center wasn't open the day I visited, but the outdoor kiosks had a lot of history and information.

We were out searching for markers and were overjoyed to see Pauli family home restored. We were saddened that the marker wasn't up for the property. When will that go up?
