While the food here is normally worth the price and very tasty, my most recent experience was very subpar.
The veggie tempura is normally an equal mix of: sweet potato, Japanese pumpkin, onion, zucchini, and broccoli. This time, it was sweet potato (the majority), onion, zucchini, broccoli, and an untrimmed stalk of asparagus (the bottom half was inedible). Strange, and disappointing that my favorites were the smallest amount or not there (the pumpkin and zucchini), but I assume because it was the end of the night, I was getting whatever veggies were left. The asparagus was a weird choice, though.
The chicken tempura roll was delicious as always, except that I didn’t get my BOGO. I was just charged full price (and then some because of the delivery service) for a single portion. I’ve ordered delivery from here before, and they’ve always doubled whatever roll I order—until now.
The Mongolian beef was tasty, but the amount of beef in the dish was laughable (and for $15 base, or $20 through a delivery service, the amount was offensive). This one can’t be blamed on it being late—this was simply overcharging for a dish that is 80% onions and 20% beef (if that). The only ingredients were onions, green onions, and beef. So I’m not going to just eat a forkful of onions. This is a complaint I have had about this dish before, and I unfortunately forgot about HOW disproportionate it was. Definitely do NOT order the Mongolian beef (unless you love eating onions by themself).
Now, I have been going to Peony for years, and this is mostly very unusual (except about the Mongolian beef, which I have had the same experience with when I last ordered it years ago). But the veggie tempura and sushi normally are delicious, well priced, and the BOGO deal normally works as intended. Though the tempura will get soggy if you leave it in the container longer than five minutes.
So the takeaway is: be cautious ordering veggie tempura late at night, since the ingredients might be weird; don’t order the Mongolian beef; and sometimes the sushi BOGO might not work if you order delivery.

Everything here was excellent. The service was fast, friendly, and very attentive. We ordered and had hot food on the table in only a few minutes. The dining area is dimly lit, but not too dark, and quiet, creating a relaxing atmosphere. We ordered three different plates and they were all delicious.

Visiting from Argentina, we were staying at the Marriott hotel and went for dinner. Food was super fresh, tasty and servings were generous. We never felt rushed. Service was attentive, music was soothing.

Good food.
My issue is that online it says they do BOGO Free sushi, but in store have no idea what I was talking about and said they don’t do that. Kind of annoying, but I got relatively cheaper rolls so whatever.

I used to love the sesame chicken, but over the last few months the chicken has tasted frozen / old. Two days ago we had good wonton and shrimp but the chicken had hard parts attached. We want to enjoy your food again. Maybe next time it will be better

The first thing that hits you when you walk in the door is the smell of dirty aquarium. It permeates. The staff is less than content to be there. Might as well have been trying to ask for help at Walmart. The food was really good though. I ordered the shrimp pad Thai and it was pretty exceptional. So if you can get past the terrible smell and the lackluster service, you'll have a great experience.

Peony Asian Bistro has become my family go to for quick sit down and order food and in a hurry. We have never experienced await time, it’s family friendly, fast turnaround when food is ordered and food is well prepared. Food tastes wholesome, service is pleasant and a very nice atmosphere. When we need a place to go after Sunday service, or on some holidays, when everywhere is booked and waitlist, we have always found a quick sit down here. The owner and his wife are very engaging at times and friendly.
Great place for a quick and fast sit down.
We do a lot of dine ins, and lots of takeout as well. Either way, you can’t go wrong.

This place never disappoints!!! The food is always served hot and packed with flavor and it's not overly americanized like most places. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is calm and quiet with nice dim lighting paired with peaceful back ground music. I found this place randomly a year or so ago and it's now my go to for asian and sushi (can't beat BOGO sushi rolls 🤤) and I live all the way in Roxboro if that tells you how good the food is!!

Food is fresh and delicious! Very accommodating for dietary restrictions. Wait staff is great at lunch, but twice we came for dinner, about 1-1.5 hrs before closing. Restaurant was very understaffed both times (just two people and a cook) and we felt very neglected and rushed. The two staff (waiter, cashier) did not check on us, we had to ask several times for our water, and once they started mopping the main floor and doing similar tasks well before time to close. It was so unpleasant both evenings that we doubt we'll ever come again, at least not for dinner.

Literally came here our last night in Chapel Hill and wish we came sooner! They had a great selection and good quality sushi. The waitress was so friendly and kind! And she alerted us to the BOGO deal on sushi rolls. The food came out so quickly!
