In July 2024, I attended a celebration of life for a dear friend that passed at the end of last year. Staff in the lobby looked at us skeptically. Perhaps we didn't appear rich enough to be walking into the hotel? The event itself was tucked far away in the back corner of the restaurant, as if the hotel did not want us to be seen. I've heard great things about the food at the Washinton Duke Inn, and the catering was wholly unimpressive. The "hot" bar food was cold and bland. The cheese and fruit selection was alright. Furnishings and decor could be updated to preserve the old world glam while adding a fresh and modern touch. All in all, I was a little disappointed with the experience at the celebration of life. Here's hoping future visits to the WaDuke will change this perspective.

I don’t normally leave reviews during the stay but the service here is exceptional. On par with the best 5 star hotels in the world. From the bellman, to the reception, just everyone is so hospitable. Rooms are very comfortable (we have a deluxe suite for a family of 4). The housekeeping is tremendous and very efficient. Room service is prompt. Thank you!

My work provided the room and dinner as part of a training program. With that and the activities at the JB Duke, I never had to leave the immediate area. The isolation and quiet were phenomenal. My room was comfortable and well-furnished, with efficient daily housekeeping. The dinner selections and food quality were excellent. All the staff were extremely polite and accommodating.

Absolutely delicious afternoon tea! One of the best I’ve had in the area, and the amount of food was very generous. The ginger peach tea was phenomenal, and all the sandwiches, scones and treats were wonderful. Liked it so much, I went two weekends in a row!

Pretty good tapas at reception (favorite was chicken and waffle and fried coconut shrimp). Their meal was nice - salad was very fragrant due to marinated tomatoes. Meal was decent as well for standard western cuisine. Whoever was making cocktails did wonderful job - everything was delicious (amaretto sour and grapefruit sour) The decor and images in the hallways and common rooms are really nice as well. Some insanely comfortable couches.

My son and I were going to a Duke basketball game. The hotel is great. Pool, hot tub, exercise area all great. The hotel staff treated my 5 year old like a celebrity. The location is easy walking distance to Cameron Indoor. Top notch food restaurants within the hotel. Can’t wait to come back.

We recently stayed at the Inn for three nights and we were pleased in every way. In the interest of full disclosure, we did not pay for our rooms as my husband was a guest of Duke University. I can say without hesitation however, that I would spend my own money to stay here and would recommend it. The rooms have little touches that were much appreciated including a notes blotter on the desk and a well thought out bathroom design. I didn't have a full meal but had a steak sandwich on the terrace, which was one of the best I've ever eaten. My husband loved the blush cocktail so much he had two back to back. But the real star of the hotel is the service. The porters in particular, were so incredibly helpful and thoughtful. While in the car about to leave, Danny asked us if we wanted water for the drive and offered to take out any empty water bottles we had. That's the kind of warm service that makes guests feel special and creates repeat customers. Kudos to everyone for making our stay special but also easy.

Update 2: My stay at the Washington Duke Inn was fantastic from start to finish. The front desk staff was friendly and professional and made check-in quick and pleasant. The lobby was a beautiful and welcoming space. My room was spacious and very nicely furnished. Amenities included a Nespresso coffee machine. The bathroom had elegant & modern finishes. Everything was very clean and orderly. The room was a very quiet and relaxing space. Breakfast was delicious, and the service was good. Update 1: The Director of Special Services contacted me shortly after I left my initial review and helped me resolve the issue. The customer service was outstanding. Initial review: I called reservations. The phone rang for over 40 minutes and they never picked up. I then called the main hotel and they just transferred me back to the non-responsive reservations line.
