Durham Grown: The Durham County Library Garden Club

It's Not You!

Growing Heirloom Tomatoes and Vegetables in the Triangle!

Join Deb Greene of Driver Street Nursery to learn about the difficulties of growing heirloom vegetables, particularly tomatoes, in the home garden and how to find success - or at least acceptance. Learn about what commercial growers do that you can't or don't want to do – use of pesticides, controlled environments, using resistant and hybrid varieties that compromise flavor. Learn ways to be successful in a home garden environment growing heirloom tomatoes and vegetables!

Deb Greene is the Chief Bottlewasher at Driver Street Nursery, a small mom and cat nursery in East Durham. With her intrepid (but lazy) Assistant Chief Bottlewasher, Socks, she propagates native plants and heirloom vegetables that do well in the area (i.e. her yard) and sells them to the public in the spring and fall.
