Flying High: Spring Handbell Pops Concert

Join Bell Durham for our Spring 2025 Concert featuring popular music from Broadway, the movies, and live performances sure to get you singing along. The concert features the premiere of Durham composer and Bell Durham Artistic Director Mitchell Eithun's "Defying Gravity" as well as an arrangement of "For Good," also from the movie and Broadway musical Wicked; Piedmont Blues Guitarist Etta Baker's "Carolina Breakdown"; and music from the Beatles and Irving Berlin. The concert also includes "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from the movie The Wizard of Oz and "Sway," a well-known Spanish tune that has been covered by numerous vocalists including Dean Martin and Michael Bublé. The performances will feature soprano Alissa Roca, providing vocals for "Defying Gravity," "Always," and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Particularly known for her work in contemporary music, Ms. Roca has premiered more than 20 works including several operas, a full-length concert drama and a set of songs of her own texts.

This is a family-friendly event. There is no admission fee and tickets are not required.
