“So Close You Can Breathe it In”

Led by Alexis Pauline Gumbs, acclaimed Author and Black Feminist Love Evangelist Known for her groundbreaking work, "Survival is a Promise: The Eternal Life of Audre Lorde,"

“Reflective writing on home inspired by Audre Lorde. In this workshop we will take the severely nearsighted poet warrior Audre Lorde as our guide do some close writing about home.”

In this workshop led by Alexis Pauline Gumbs, use the lens of poet-warrior Audre Lorde to explore home and belonging. Taking inspiration from Lorde’s life, work, and vision, dive deep into the sensory experiences that shape our understanding of place, memory, and identity. Together, practice “close writing,” a meditative approach that brings our reflections on home into sharp, intimate focus, even when viewed through the blurred, nearsighted perspective Lorde often spoke of. * ( open to the public)*
