Just Us Birding with Naturally Wild

This program is designed as an affinity space for BIPOC participants with any level of birding experience. Whether this is your first time, or you are an experienced birder, join Naturally Wild LLC to meet the birds that call Duke Gardens home. Led by bird guide Deja Perkins, participants will learn how to identify various birds, help contribute to the NC Bird Atlas and learn how to monitor birds in their own neighborhoods using Merlin and eBird. This program is offered every first Saturday from September through November, on Sept. 7, Oct. 5 and Nov 2. A limited number of sanitized binoculars will be available for use; participants are also welcome to bring their own.

Why is this program for a specific audience?

The outdoors is for everyone, but the way we each interact with and experience our surroundings is influenced by our identities and lived experiences. This program intends to increase access to birding and outdoor spaces for marginalized identities that have historically faced bias, exclusion and other challenges to a sense of belonging in these spaces. Look for additional birding programs offered for all identities on September 27, October 12 and October 25.

Fee: Free; registration required. Parking fees apply.
