The North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble presents Rhythms Reimagined with Special Guests Luke Hickey and Elizabeth Burke

Join the world-renowned North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble (NCYTE) and esteemed guest artists Luke Hickey and Elizabeth Burke for Rhythms Reimagined—a dynamic tribute to the company’s 42-year legacy in the art of tap dance.

Produced by NCYTE’s senior members and their Artistic Director, this production offers a fresh perspective on the ensemble’s extensive repertory, featuring newly unearthed archival works, innovative premieres, and audience favorites. Presented in distinct chapters, Rhythms Reimagined highlights the evolution of tap dance through a diverse range of styles, including traditional soft shoe, stair dancing, sand dancing, body percussion, and the cutting edge of rhythm tap.

NCYTE is honored to welcome back alumni Luke Hickey and Elizabeth Burke (of Dorrance Dance) as special guest performers, celebrating the past, present, and future of this vibrant art form.

About the NC Youth Tap Ensemble:

Founded in 1982 by Gene Medler, NCYTE is currently under the artistic direction of Emily Shoemaker. The company, hailed as "The Premier Youth Ensemble in the World", has traveled throughout the country, as well as ventured to destinations such as Brazil, China, and Mexico. This pre-professional nonprofit company of dancers commands the stage with choreography from their impressive repertoire, showcasing pieces from some of the most talented tap dancers of all time, including works by Brenda Bufalino, Michelle Dorrance, The Condos Brothers, Ayodele Casel. NCYTE has toured throughout the U.S. and the world, with performances in Austria, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, Germany and Mexico. The company has toured or collaborated with the Greensboro Symphony, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Mallarme Chamber Players, and the North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra, among others.
