The Sonic Youth of the Southern Hemisphere

Bailter Space, New Zealand/New York psychgaze legends, revered as one of the loudest and most intense bands of all-time, with a deep catalog on Matador and Flying Nun Records.
Formed in Christchurch, New Zealand in 1987 as Nelsh Bailter Space, the band’s musical family tree touches on some of the nation’s most revered weirdo luminaries – including Flying Nun mainstays like the Skeptics, the Clean, and the Gordons.
Bailter Space embraced chaos, but celebrated precision, finding melody amid networks of brooding noise and feedback. After relocating to New York City, the band – who by then included Alister Parker, John Halvorsen, and Brent McLachlan – arrived on Matador in in time for the US release of Robot World (1993). Wammo was the trio’s third and final full-length with the label (their fifth album overall) and was among its most tuneful efforts (relatively speaking!).

Verity Den
Verity Den was born of chance meetings and life-long dedications. The band is comprised of Casey Proctor, Trevor Reece, Mike Wallace and Reed Benjamin, all of whom spent considerable time in their respective and shared DIY-music communities before converging to form the group in early 2023. Casey and Trevor initially met as members of an ad-hoc improv ensemble performing tape loops, strings, and electronics as part of a multi-disciplinary series hosted on a rooftop in Chapel Hill called Attic 506. Soon after, the three shifted from long-running musical projects to focus on exploring new sonic territories together. The band operates in an ever-evolving dynamic of group improvisation and studio experimentation, capturing moments of coarse circuit completion and bringing to fruition long-gestating ideas and songs. The sound is raw and largely unadorned, transmitting both truth and wildness
