"Three Story Tellers" Pop-Up Art Gallery

Visual storytelling, one of humanity's oldest forms of communication, is brought to life by artists' unique perspectives. Whether telling literal stories or creating connections to the past that influence our present, artists Fritzi Huber, Mark Weber, and Melissa Wilgis use a diverse range of mediums to communicate their stories, both personal and fictional. Based in Wilmington, NC, their unique perspectives are also deeply influenced by the local ecology, enhancing the audience's appreciation of their individual narratives.

Huber, a papermaker, incorporates found natural objects into her artwork, highlighting the importance of the local environment. Her use of recycled materials also illustrates change and transformation while connecting to elements of the past. Weber, a fine artist and illustrator, creates varied artwork with aspects of Southern Gothic and whimsy, adding a touch of light-heartedness and joy, alluding to the importance of nature and animals in human life. Among her many photography processes, Wilgis creates cyanotype photograms of shadows from her back porch. This technique makes the passage of time tangible, adding a unique storytelling element and implies a feeling of nostalgia and the idea of being present in the moment.

Curated by Holly Tripman Fitzgerald and Michael S. Williams.
